The Gogama Wilderness Region is a fabulous area for hunting Grouse. There are many game trails, ATV paths and old logging roads where you can get access to the deep bush, which is inundated with Grouse. 90% of the Grouse you will see are Ruffed Grouse. On occasion you will see Spruce Grouse and Sharptail Grouse but they are not common to the area and more common in Northwestern Ontario closer to the Manitoba border.
Grouse hunting is a traditional pastime that attracts many different people and for good reasons. There is nothing more soothing and relaxing than walking though the forest in the fresh clean autumn air while observing the gorgeous fall foliage. This all adds to the experience of the hunt.
Ruffed Grouse in North Central Ontario are most common between 1.5 and 2 pounds. The bigger males on occasion reach 3 pounds and on rare occasions even bigger. A big bird like that can have a large tasty breast.
Grouse Hunters are more than welcome to rent a cabin in the fall or you can do a combo Grouse Hunting and fishing trip.
